Jharkhand HC seeks reports from district judges on custodial deaths

  • Jharkhand High Court demands custodial death reports from all district magistrates

  • High Court adjourns hearing on the matter to July 26, awaiting district judges' reports

The Jharkhand High Court has sought custodial death reports from all district magistrates of the state.

A division bench headed by Justice Ananda Sen passed the order after hearing a PIL filed by Dhanbad resident Mumtaz Ansari in the matter.

The court asked all district judges about the number of pending applications for inquests into custodial deaths.

Seeking a report from the district judges, the High Court adjourned the hearing on the matter to July 26.

Advocate Shadab Ansari represented Mumtaz Ansari in court during the hearing of the PIL.
